Lace on the Village Green

ree

Borris Lacemakers are looking forward to National Heritage Week as they will feature a fun family friendly celebration of lace on the Village Green, Main Street Borris on Friday August 22nd which is Market Day in the town. Meet the makers, some dressed in period costume or displaying lace clothing bringing back memories of former days. Why not ‘Try a Stitch’, have a selfie taken and bring the children along as there will be colouring activities designed by local artist Jules Michael based on Borris Lace.  This event is part funded by Carlow Arts Office under the Arts Acts Grant 2025.

to ‘Lace on the Village Green’ Borris Lacemakers will enjoy a visit from Mary Elizabeth Barron, an Australian Visual Artist who is visiting lace groups in Ireland and is coming to Borris on August 18th for a couple of days. Mary specialises in large scale lace made entirely of recycled plastic bags with designs based on the waterways and flora of her local area. We look forward to hearing Mary share her story as a Visual Artist, the development of her lacemaking skills, her inspirations, materials and processes. On her tour so far she has held masterclass events and visited among others Limerick and Headford Lace Groups. After her six week stay in Ireland she will visit lace groups in Scotland, Norfolk and Derby before finishing off in Spain.  It is quite an honour for Borris Lacemakers to be included in Mary’s busy itinerary.
